Sonya Nance Rodriguez

Sonya is passionate about strategies to strengthen families and loves coaching teens and young adults. Her experience in wilderness and residential treatment programs gives her a perspective and understanding that helps her connect with clients.

She works from a family systems approach and helps families find solutions for increased connection, decreased anxiety, and less explosiveness. Sonya works with families whose loved one may struggle with anxiety, depression, drug abuse and addiction, suicidal ideation, self-injury, attachment, adoption, and conduct issues. She also has experience with individuals on the autism spectrum and other neurodivergencies such as ADHD.

Sonya teaches master’s and doctorate level students as a part time professor at National University and supervises new Marriage and Family therapists. She holds an M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of North Texas and a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University, where her dissertation research was on family work in residential and wilderness treatment.

Having been married for over 30 years and raising four kids into young adulthood informs and leads Sonya’s work with compassion and humility. She knows firsthand the wild, difficult, and rewarding ride. In her free time, she enjoys the great outdoors—hiking, biking, skiing and water sports with loved ones. She is an avid traveler and is perpetually in search of her next great adventure.
